Kemenangan di PON 2024 ini menambah koleksi medali emas Iwan Samurai, setelah sebelumnya meraih emas di PON 2012 Riau, PON 2016 Jawa Barat, dan PON 2021 Papua. Ini menjadi medali emas keempat yang diraihnya sepanjang partisipasinya di PON.
“Terima kasih atas dukungan dari semua pihak. Saya sangat bersyukur bisa kembali meraih medali emas di PON kali ini,” ujar Iwan Samurai dengan penuh rasa syukur.
Ketua KONI Sumbar, Ronny , juga mengungkapkan kebahagiaannya atas perolehan emas pertama untuk Sumbar di PON XXI Aceh-Sumut. “Alhamdulillah, binaraga menyumbang medali emas perdana untuk Sumatera Barat,” kata Ronny.
Ia berharap kemenangan ini menjadi penyemangat bagi para atlet Sumbar lainnya. “Semoga medali emas dari binaraga ini dapat menginspirasi atlet-atlet Sumbar lainnya untuk mengikuti jejak Iwan Samurai dalam meraih medali bergengsi,” tambahnya.
